My first "on the road" shoot was the J scene. We shot a moment from the movie, Julia. It was the first film Meryl Streep was ever in and she had a rather small role but of course, made the most of it. The part calls for me to be obnoxious, there's no other word for it. I was reminded by a character in the movie, Bridget Jones Diary, Edge of Reason. Bridget is at a pub with her friends and they see a woman coming and refer to her as a jelly fish. The implication that is her every word is like a jelly fish sting, poisonous. I tend to have inspiration for each role and this woman was mine for the J scene. I cast Jennifer Enskat in the Bridget Fonda role of Lillian. Jen was perfect for the part. Her job was to listen to my jellyfish words and try to contain herself. She did an awesome job. Jen lives near Mansfield and her boyfriend, Andy Gardner is a director of Photography so they came as a package deal. Beyond that beautiful fact, Jen and Andy provided extras, craft services and sound! I arrived around 11 am but everyone else arrived around 9. They were setting up, perfecting the shot. It was very exciting. Jennifer also got the location which was perfect for the shoot and provided costumes. You will definitely need to read my special thanks blog post that will name all of the fabulous contributors to this scene.
As I drove home in a rain storm, I found myself getting emotional. Just what I needed, more water in my face, I got teary. Truth is, Jennifer and I have seen each other on auditions but we live so far apart that we've never done a thing socially. Andy is someone I met through Jen years ago for about 4 minutes so he was new to me as well. In fact, everyone involved was almost a stranger (except Jennifer) so I couldn't chalk it up to them just being sweet. It was as though they each had their own reasons for wanting to be involved and it was thrilling beyond belief. They treated me like I WAS Meryl. It was so unexpected, especially when they each thanked me, including the bar owner.
Here are some photos from the shoot!
